Everyone Can Draw

I read that about two years ago

So, I decided to prove them wrong and gave it a shot. I was 64 at the time and I couldn't even draw a stick figure so I knew it would be a challenge. I signed up for some art classes on Udemy.com and started the journey. I started off with pencil drawing and some art classes for computer design and I'm currently doing some color pencil courses. I found it important to not trace a design but to actually jump in and draw. To my surprise I actually could draw and I am having a great time learning something that I thought I could never do.

Pratice Every Day

I was like there is no way you need to do this every day so I did some hit or miss drawing. I can tell you hit or miss doesn’t work. Just 10 to 20 minutes a day is all it takes. Maybe you spend the 10 minutes session just drawing circles and random shapes. Believe me just doing shapes and circles makes a huge difference.

My Art Journey

Art by Steve

As I said earlier this has been a two-year journey. Most of the art that I am posting is the result of classes I have taken along the way. I have trouble drawing from imagination so I use a lot of references. However, nothing is traced.

I was lucky

Early in my journey I was lucky to find a great instruction site call Udemy.com. They have hundreds of instructors teaching any art style you could desire. My current instructor Ava who teaches Masterclass Drawing, Design & Creativity with color pencil, and many others, is a wealth of knowledge. She has packed her course with so many projects that I want to come back every day to see what else I can learn.

My Photography

Photography by Steve

I have run into people who say that photography is not art, I disagree. It is so much more than simply pushing a button on the camera. You have to understand the environment you are working in to include the light, the subject you wish to capture, and how the camera will combine all the setting you set to get the perfect one of a kind piece of art. As with all art, every shot is not a masterpiece and many end up in a folder never to be seen again.

I was star struck

The first time I dove the crystal clear water of the Caribbean I was star struck with the absolute beauty of the undersea world. I wanted to capture that beauty so I started underwater photography in the early 1980s using huge film camera and no lights and to be honest not one shot came out but I did not let that stop me. Technology has changed a whole lot in the past 40 years. Instant results with digital along with much better cameras and strobes has improved my photographs immensely. I hope you enjoy the photos.
